MND’s Dance Team Makes History!

MND’s Dance Program has done it again! The two new youth teams made their debut last fall and are already making their “big sisters” proud! MND’s mini duet of Olivia Woods of Hyde Park and Elyse Sennett of Liberty Township, took 1st place at the Ameridance Buckeye championship in Columbus, OH, and 2nd at the regional competition held at Seton High School earlier this month.

The Youth Team boasts five members: Leah Ostendorf of Finneytown, Rebecca Howe of Hyde Park, Bronte Reinert of New Richmond, Mary White of Reading and Jillian Sennett of Liberty Township. The team placed 4th at the Buckeye Championship and 1st at the regional competition. These newest Cougars are living up to the MND name well!

The Junior Team is falling right in line! The team placed 1st in both their Jazz and Lyrical routines at the Buckeye Championship. They introduced a third routine at the regional competition at Seton High School, placing 2nd in Pom and 1st in Lyrical and Jazz. The Junior Team was also awarded the High Point and Grand Champion awards in the Junior Division for their outstanding routines and choreography. Rachel Brinkman of Liberty Township, placed 3rd at the Buckeye Championship and took 2nd at the regional competition for her solo.

“It was a big decision for us to expand the dance program,” commented Youth Coordinator Alisia Sullivan Davis. “We wanted to make sure that if we were going to add a new level to the program, it would be something we could sustain for years to come. I am thrilled with the early success our new teams are experiencing this season and am looking forward to the possibility of launching a minis team in the next few years.”

Leading the program, the Varsity dancers performed at their usual standard of excellence. At the Buckeye Championship in Columbus, OH, the team took 1st place in Pom and Kick. Most recently at the regional competition, held at Seton High School, MND’s Varsity Cougar Dance Team took 1st place in both the Pom and High Kick categories and also received the High Point and Grand Champion awards as a result of receiving the highest scores of the entire competition.

This year marks a milestone for the Varsity team - they have won three Grand Champion awards in a single season! As Grand Champions, you are selected as having the best dance routine of the entire competition. The next stop for the varsity dance team is Orlando, FL, for the Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Championship.
