Cori Luther, daughter of Bob and Deborah Luther of Evendale, was recently awarded a 2009 Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. This four-year, renewable scholarship includes full-tuition and room and board and is given to students who are in good academic standing and who have spent time caddying on the golf course.
Luther, who has high grades and participates in many extracurricular activities, has been a caddie for three years, working at the Camargo Country Club in Indian Hill. She will attend The Ohio State University next year, where she will live in a brand new $8 million housing facility with four other Evans scholars, holding up obligations required of the scholarship and working to obtain her degree.
“This scholarship is a dream come true,” exclaimed Luther, “It is an honor but it is also so nice to know that I won’t be coming out of college owing a lot of money.”
The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship program was founded by and named for Charles “Chick” Evans, Jr., who won 54 tournaments throughout his golfing career. He received worldwide fame in 1916 after winning both the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Open. After retaining his amateur status, he used his golf earnings to establish a trust to assist golf caddies in achieving their college degrees. Since its creation in 1930, this program has helped over 9,000 student caddies like Luther.
