A Year of Sisterhood: MND Students and Sisters of Notre Dame deNamur

Recently, students in Mount Notre Dame’s “Adopt-A-Sister” club and their “sisters” -  Sisters of Notre Dame deNamur - had an end of the year party, celebrating a year of worship, fellowship and fun together.  Each student in the club is paired with a Sister from the convent.  Throughout the school year, each student and “adopted sister” met once a month at the convent, located next to the school.  The pairs share life stories, build friendships and engage in faith formation.

Emily Bolte has been involved in the club for two years. She said, “Adopt-A-Sister was a way for me to reach out and be a light of hope and happiness for others.  I would  laugh and smile and pray, all while enjoying the things I was doing with my Sister and friend.”

These small meetings among friends, served with soft-serve ice cream and memorable conversations, are important to both the students and the Sisters.  This is especially true for club member Emily Motz.  “I cherish the time we spend together once a month,” she said, “The Sisters are so sweet and friendly…this club really is a lot of fun.”

The fun of Adopt-A-Sister is a fresh addition for new club member Jessie Rutkousky.  This was her first year in the club, but she did nothing but rave about her experience. She said, “I had a ton of fun in the Adopt-A-Sister program this year and I also learned a lot. I learned more about myself as a person and about what it is like to be a Sister.  I am very glad I participated in the program and only wish I had joined sooner!”

Club president, Brooke English, was instrumental in organizing the meetings throughout the year and planning the final party.  She wrapped up the event in saying: “Being in this program has changed me as a person. The Sisters are all so sweet and always have a wonderful way of brightening my day. Their smiles, love and support have been amazingly overwhelming. The club members and the Sisters truly enjoy ‘Adopt-A-Sis’ and I am so glad we have this experience!”
