MND Student Conducts Research at Cincinnati Children’s

Most teenagers spend their summers hitting Kings Island or the Beach Waterpark.  Some may have summer jobs; some may just enjoy the slow pace that time away from school affords.  This however, was not the case for Mount Notre Dame junior Akanksha Mishra, of Sycamore Township.  Akanksha was accepted into the National Institute of Health’s research program conducted at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  The exclusive program is for high school and college students interested in careers in health and biomedical research.    Only 50 students from across the country are selected to participate based on their interest in the field, GPA and extracurricular activities.

During her time in the program, Akanksha worked on a research project which studied the mechanism of the induction of eosinophilic lung and esophageal inflammation caused by inhaling indoor and outdoor allergens.  The experience at Children’s is one that Ms. Mishra values very deeply.  “The Children’s Hospital research physicians, faculty and staff are very helpful in motivating me to select my future in medical research and improving patient healthcare,” she said.
