Mount Notre Dame’s Social Studies Department takes very seriously the school’s mission to prepare students to “live, lead and serve in an ever-changing global society.” A school program that typifies this very concept is MND’s chapter of the Model United Nations.

Focus: Mathematics




Upon entering a room of 18 high school students with heads buried in Tablet PCs, completely engaged and engrossed, one might assume that they are watching the latest YouTube sensation or checking out the latest Facebook update. Not so at Mount Notre Dame. These students are actually manipulating a free-moving point on the graph of a polynomial - this is the scene during Ms. Paula Schute’s pre-calculus class.

Focus: Engineering



Mount Notre Dame science teacher and degreed engineer, Mrs. Michelle Shafer, moves through her lab, checking in on students working on a task that simulates how engineers might tackle a challenge. Mrs. Shafer’s class is figuring out how two separate parts that work together in a larger design of a product. The students are using SolidWorks, the same software professionals in the industry use to create models, drawings and animations of their designs.
