Preparing You for Your Journey

Mount Notre Dame students are well prepared to make college choices and begin their journey of what we hope will be one of life-long learning and success! The goal of Mount Notre Dame’s Guidance Department and College Resource Center is to prepare students to face the challenges of the 21st century. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive Guidance program that provides both support and challenge through personal counseling, group guidance and college counseling and planning. Each counselor assists her students to understand and recognize her unique talents and natural abilities. Counselors also help students develop the tools to make sound educational, personal, college and career-path decisions.

Students at MND have the same counselor all four years, and our aim is to get to know each student as an individual, with her own special combination of goals, skills, values, hopes and dreams. Over the four years, the counseling staff provides students with information and resources through individual conferences, small group meetings and assemblies. Through these meetings, Mount Notre Dame’s young women are encouraged to balance their educational goals and growing need for independence with the demands of school, family and friends.

As early as the freshman year, counselors will work with students to create a personal four-year academic plans that incorporate their academic MAP goals. Each year, during our academic advising meetings, this plan is revised by the student with the feedback of her counselor. Course selections are carefully chosen based on recommendations of teachers and the academic goals of the student. Our students are encouraged to opt for courses that will challenge them and prepare them for college-level courses.

Our testing program that assesses our students’ college readiness begins in September of their freshman year. Each year, students are given opportunities to take practice tests for SAT and ACT. Career Interest Assessments are also given to guide students in exploring college majors and careers.

The Road to College, a college planning conference for juniors and their parents, assists families in navigating through the sometimes complicated college application process. Each student will receive a personalized “resource guide” that will guide her to the college destination that is best for her.

We look forward to meeting and guiding our students throughout their four years of high school!
