Slowing down to breathe
Liberty is a small town tucked into the hills of central Kentucky, home to many wonderful people and a slower pace of life. For many years, students and adults have visited Liberty to work with friends - the Langes, the Dunlaps, the Carmans, the Showalters, the Pattons and many others. Many students have made multiple visits, hungry to reconnect with our friends in Liberty, and to get a taste of a more simple way of life - to slow down, breathe, and get closer to God.
Many experiences await
Many different experiences await! While in Liberty we work on an organic farm, help with construction projects, visit and assist elderly and disabled friends, and help Mennonite friends with their daily chores. We share community meals, take hikes and hayrides, play games, listen to live folk music, explore our faith, and do other activities unique to each visit!
You are invited
Liberty is truly is a place of peace and freedom. All Mount Notre Dame students, parents and alumnae are invited to join us on our trips. Our next visit will be in March 22 - 26, 2012. Click HERE for an application.
Student Reflections
"Liberty isn’t a service trip that is just about working. In Liberty, it doesn’t matter if you can’t talk, if you can’t walk perfectly; it doesn’t matter if you don’t have any hands - down there, everyone serves a purpose. Liberty is a place where money isn’t the most important thing in life. Where people can’t wait to help another person out. No human being, no matter how deformed, is seen as a drain on society- but a gift from God. Children aren’t punished for their parents wrongs. Every time I go down to Liberty- my faith is recharged." - Malorie Mullinger (2013)
"The simpler life style while in Liberty has helped me to get more in tune with the environment and helped me make new friends while there. At first I thought that giving up technology for a week would be really difficult, but once I got there and was enjoying the simpler lifestyle I totally forgot about technology. Going without technology for a few days has helped me to take the time to reflect on my life, who I am as a person, and what type of relationships I have with God and others." - Carolyn Schwarz (2013)

A Good Friend in Need
In February 2011, we held a Voices for Village Concert to raise money for Abdul. We are planning on doing another concert in early March 2012. Click HERE to read about the Concert and to learn more about Abdul's story. Abdul is currently in Afghanistan, and needs our help. Trip participants will learn about his sitution and how we plan on helping.
