Adopt-A-Sis is a way for MND students to develop relationships with Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur living in the convent adjacent to the school and in surrounding neighborhoods. During the 2014-2015 school year, 102 girls and 22 Sisters participated. Sr. Paula Maria Becker, Adopt-A-Sis moderator for the past 19 years, says, “These connections between multi-generational friends provide never to be forgotten experiences. It is truly wonderful to witness what happens when generations intermingle and share themselves with each other.”
The relationships formed through this program are reciprocal; the MND girls gain an appreciation of the wisdom and interest the Sisters so lovingly share with them, and the Sisters appreciate the spark and youthful energy the girls bring with them. Many of the friendships formed through this club last long after the students graduate from MND.
