Endowment

Mount Notre Dame established an endowment in 2003 to secure the future financial stability of the school. Endowment gifts are often in the form of cash or securities but also may include gifts of real estate, appreciated property and planned giving options. Endowment gifts can be paid over a period of years and maybe designed for specific named funds and scholarships. Endowment supports student financial aid, faculty development, academics, technology and various community service and retreat programs.

A fully-funded, named, endowed scholarship can be established with a gift or a pledge of $200,000. A half-funded, named scholarship can be established with a gift of $100,000. Pledge payments should be completed within a five-year period or designated through a planned gift.

A named, endowed scholarship can be established with a gift or pledge of $25,000 or more. Pledge payments should be completed within five years.

Named, endowed scholarships provide opportunities for individuals and/or families to invest in the ministry of Catholic education while helping fund a student’s tuition. A gift assists Mount Notre Dame in shaping a strong future and helping the school meet the financial needs of a diverse student body.

  • Scholarships may be named to memorialize a deceased family member or friend, or to honor a living family member or friend. The scholarships may also be named for a teacher, staff member, a department or a school project or club.
  • A gift may be given over a five-year period. A scholarship is awarded when the fund reaches the $10,000-level. If after five years the $25,000-level is not reached, the gift may be added to the Mount Notre Dame Scholarship Endowment fund.
  • Once the named scholarship fund has reached the $25,000-level, it becomes a permanent Named Endowed Scholarship. Scholarships are listed in the Mount Notre Dame Annual Report.
  • The total gift is tax deductible.

If you are interested in making an endowment gift, please contact Cheri Cunningham Stacey '71, Senior Advancement Officer, at cstacey@mndhs.org or 513.821.3044 ext. 112.

Planned Giving

If you value the education that MND provides young women and would like to help secure its future, you might consider arranging for a planned gift to benefit the school.

A Planned Giving Program has been established to receive such gifts. All interested donors are invited to participate. Gifts made to the Planned Giving Program help ensure the future growth of MND. Contributions support the long-term financial stability of the school. Policies and procedures are in place for gift acceptance and are intended to provide guidance to prospective donors and their advisers when making planned gifts.

To recognize your thoughtful and generous plan, Mount Notre Dame has established “The Heritage Society.” You can learn more about our planned giving options at our web site http://mndhs.plannedgiving.org/giving/1.html.

If you have already made a planned gift to Mount Notre Dame, we would like to know about your generous support of this type of gift. Please let Cheri Cunningham Stacey '71, Senior Advancement Officer know, indicating that you have made the legal arrangements. For a future gift to the school, include the method you have selected. An alternative to a letter is to send an official copy of the section in the document.

Everyone has a unique and personal reason for giving, reflecting their individual charitable desires. Depending on the type of gift you choose, planned giving can provide you with some or all of the following benefits:

  • An income stream for your lifetime
  • Immediate or future year income tax deductions
  • Conservation of your estate through reduction of estate taxes
  • Reductions or eliminations of capital gains tax on appreciated property
  • The joy of knowing your gift will benefit Mount Notre Dame students

Types of Planned Gifts include:

  • Wills/Bequests
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
  • Gift Annuities
  • Life Insurance
  • Real Estate
  • Individual Return Accounts

Donor Responsibility: A planned gift is an individual decision and Mount Notre Dame asks you to consult with independent advisers regarding the best way to structure a planned gift. A professional adviser will know tax and legal regulations that can impact your planned gift.

Named Scholarships

Creating a Named Endowed Scholarship in honor of a loved one or classmate is a generous act which will help future students receive a Mount Notre Dame (MND) education. Also consider honoring a teacher or a Sister of Notre Dame who impacted your life.An endowed scholarship created today allows one’s legacy to exist in perpetuity and will serve MND students forever.

An endowed scholarship requires a gift/gifts totaling $25,000.This assures an annual scholarship award of $1,000 from the interest earned. The grants are awarded each year from the interest attached to the scholarship.

Larger gift levels will increase the annual scholarship award or allow MND to give multiple scholarships.MND can be flexible and will work with you to complete the funding over a five-year period until the scholarship becomes endowed.

A fully-funded Named Endowed Scholarship can be established with a gift or pledge of $250,000.A half-funded Named Endowed Scholarship can be established with a gift of $125,000.

Named Endowed Scholarships provide opportunities for individuals and/or families to invest in the ministry of Catholic education while helping fund a student’s tuition. A gift assists Mount Notre Dame in shaping a strong future and helping the school meet the financial needs of a diverse student body.

Currently MND has over 30 named scholarships that assist incoming and current students defray the cost of tuition.

Please consider giving back to MND by establishing an endowed scholarship which will help a student and/or students to realize their dream of attending MND.For more information about the Scholarship Endowment program or other ways to give to MND such as remembering MND in your estate planning, please contact Cheri Cunningham Stacey ’71, Senior Advancement Officer at (513) 821-3044, Extension 112 or cstacey@mndhs.org.

Here are a few of MND’s newest named scholarships.

Leahy Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Lillian Leahy McCabe ‘66 honored her beloved family (mother Lilian, father Richard, and brother Richard Jr.) by endowing a memorial scholarship in their name.Lillian states, “My parents worked very hard to send me to Catholic grammar school and to Mount Notre Dame.Their faith was really important to them, and they highly valued Catholic education. My brother had Downs Syndrome, but received years of Catechism from the Sisters of Notre Dame.I wanted to honor my parents and brother by helping a young lady and her family, each year, pay MND tuition, and to benefit from this fine education. "

Julie Bien Niehoff ’62 Memorial Scholarship

Eileen Duermit Lakin ’62 established this scholarship in honor of her beloved friend and classmate who passed away on February 13, 2015.Eileen says, “I established a scholarship in Julie’s name to honor her goodness.”She was a faith-filled person who was kind, thoughtful, fun and never judgmental. Her high moral character and unassuming manner could be a role model for all of us. By her example, she made you want to be a better person.

Eileen added, “Since Catholic education was so important to Julie, a scholarship at Mount Notre seemed to be the perfect fit to benefit a young woman who exhibits similar qualities.”

Thomas Geier Literary Arts Scholarship

When preparing for retirement in June, 2014, long-time faculty member established this scholarship in his name.

According to Tom, “MND and its English program were such a big part of my life (and my family's lives) during the 39 years I served that establishing a literary - based scholarship in my name seemed the natural thing to do. In the face of rising tuition costs, I wanted to help others experience the treasure that is MND."

Additionally, Tom set up a writing contest for incoming freshmen with small tuition stipends as the prizes. "I LOVE and respect any kind of creative artistic pursuits. That's why I wanted the contest to be a part of my legacy in addition to the scholarship.”

Sponsor A Student

MND’s Sponsor a Student Program (or SAS) is a giving opportunity to the young women of Mount Notre Dame. This new program directly benefits a student in need. While sponsorship programs have been available in the past, SAS is a unique, personalized approach in giving.

SAS offers benefactors the opportunity to make an amazing gift of paying all or a portion of a particular student’s tuition for her years at MND. Each benefactor is given the opportunity to meet the student they are sponsoring and to develop a wonderful relationship with her and to see their investment at work immediately.

The student also receives the gift of getting to know her sponsor who has invested $10,000 or greater for her tuition. Although not required, multi-year pledges are strongly encouraged.

Anyone interested in learning more about SAS can contact Rose Eckhoff, Director of Advancement, at reckhoff@mndhs.org or 513-821-3044 ext: 105.

Matching Gifts

With matching gifts you can sometimes double or even triple your gift! Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, please enter your employer’s name in the box below.

If your company matches you may be able to access the forms directly through the search. Follow the set procedure and Mount Notre Dame High School will be happy to assist you. The impact of your gift may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.

More than ever, your gift is needed to help ensure that the tradition of Mount Notre Dame is secure for generations to come.

Our Lady's Fund

Donations to MND’s Our Lady’s Fund (or OLF) provide much needed financial support to students and their families who find themselves in extreme hardship circumstances. The amount and duration of this support is dependent upon each individual circumstance, and is decided by the Head of School and MND’s Office of Finance.Benefactors to OLF are immensely gratified knowing that their gift directly supports a particular family in need.Typically recipients of OLF are current students who might otherwise need to leave MND without emergency support.

Please consider contributing to MND’s Our Lady’s Fund. For additional information, contact Director of Advancement Rose Eckhoff at 513.821.3044 x105 or via e-mail at reckhoff@mndhs.org.

Gift of Securities

Making a gift of appreciated stock is one of the most advantageous forms of giving for tax purposes. You can write off the value of the stock as a gift, plus avoid capital gains taxes. The gift is valued as the fair market price of the stock upon trade. To make gifts of stock transfers or for further information, please call Director of Advancement Rose Eckhoff at 513.821.3044 x105 or email at reckhoff@mndhs.org.
