OUR STORY

A Legacy of Empowerment

Founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1860, Mount Notre Dame is Cincinnati’s oldest all-female academy.

“Teach them what they need
to know for life.”

St. Julie Billiart,
Foundress, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

Originally a boarding school in downtown Cincinnati, it moved to Reading and evolved over decades into the vibrant college-preparatory high school it is today. Deeply rooted in Catholic faith and Saint Julie Billiart’s guiding principle: “Teach them what they need to know for life.” MND has grown through key milestones: enrolling the first day students in 1897, affiliating with the Archdiocese in 1956, relocating to its current campus in 1965, and celebrating major anniversaries like the centennial (1960) and sesquicentennial (2010).

Today, MND continues to uphold its mission of educating, empowering, and transforming young women—blending a storied past with innovative academic and spiritual opportunities that prepare students to lead with confidence, compassion, and purpose.

Mount Notre Dame is sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur which is a religious order that originated in France and Belgium. The order is an international organization with a main US region located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The school was founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1860.
